Having spent the larger portion of my time in places where it pisses it down for large amounts of time, believe it or not you actually start to form a strange love of the rain, or possibly a deep seated hatred and a drink problem. It is still hard to tell which way I will go with it, but one thing I do know is that when the rain stops, the mists in the coast mountains are some of the most inspiring scenes you can imagine. They roll gracefully across the hillsides, pulsing through the forests and breathing with the landscape. They somehow make all the wet misery worth it………….
This Spring has been a continuation of the Coast mountains ‘el Nino’ trend with large amounts of rain falling on the coast. Here are a few selects from the spring rains…….
River Gypsies just finished publishing their new Guide to Whitewater Kayaking Classics throughout North America. I managed to get a page in there for some of Squamish’s classic waterfalls.
Back in 2007 myself Matt maddaloni of Sea to sky cam and Bryan Smith of Reel water productions teamed up to produce some viral video content for the Welsh Canoe Assosication. This was very early on in the development of Matt’s camera motion systems and involved myself and Matt actually being on the line to shoot. Matt has since progressed to a full automated system which can be rigged in back country situations in a matter of hours. Here are some of the clips shot using the early cable camera systems.

The 2009 Gold Rush Challenge took place this weekend at Britannia Beach, located on the Sea to Sky Highway, 15 minutes south of Squamish. The Gold Rush event is a challenging longboarding race down a super steep – 1000 ft vertical, 3.5 km track, with several sharp switchbacking corners to navigate at ridiculous speeds.
The weather was amazing. Bluebird skies made for a perfect venue. On the track the action was pretty intense with several high speeds spills and carange filled runs…….
Thank you to the communtiy in Britannia beach for being open minded enough to allow events like this to happen….
